Discover Adelaide

From the Adelaide Oval and cultural precincts to its world-class food and wine, there’s no better place to connect, collaborate and celebrate.

How to get around

Adelaide Airport (ADL) is approximately 7 km from the city centre; you’ll find car hire, rideshare and airport shuttles available. The CBD is compact and walkable; public transport (buses, trams) covers the wider metro-area.

If you plan to explore the wider region (wine country, coastline, hills) then a hire car offers flexibility, especially for day-trips. The roads are well-signposted and distances are manageable.

Adelaide CBD – must see

  • Stroll through Adelaide Central Market – one of the southern hemisphere’s largest undercover fresh-produce markets, bustling with cafés, gourmet stores and lively atmosphere.
  • Visit Adelaide Oval – one Australia’s most iconic sports stadiums. The RoofClimb is an unforgettable experience and a great way to take in the picturesque views of the city and beyond.
  • Visit the Adelaide Botanic Garden for a mix of tranquil gardens, historic glasshouses and a leafy retreat in the heart of the city.
  • Walk the city’s cultural boulevard – explore museums, galleries and heritage architecture along the parklands and North Terrace.
  • Head out to Glenelg (around 20 minutes by tram) for seaside walks, café culture and beach-sunsets.
  • Enjoy the food and wine scene – Adelaide is known for dynamic cafés, rooftop bars and world-class cellar doors just beyond city limits.

Places to explore – ideal for day trips

  • Adelaide Hills and Hahndorf are just 30 minutes east of the city and offer lush countryside, heritage towns and wildlife experiences. In Hahndorf you’ll find German-influenced cafés, boutique shops and relaxed village charm.
  • A visit to Mount Lofty Summit gives a panoramic outlook over Adelaide – a great stop at the start or end of your day.
  • The Barossa Valley, approximately 1 hour north-east of the city, is one of Australia’s iconic wine regions – expect outstanding cellar-doors, food experiences and historic villages.
  • The Fleurieu Peninsula, around 45 minutes south of the city, blends vineyard landscapes like McLaren Vale with rugged coastline and relaxed seaside towns like Victor Harbor.

Tip: Pick one area (wine region or coast) rather than trying to do everything.

For a longer stay before or after the conference

  • Approximately 3 hours drive + a ferry ride, Kangaroo Island is reachable for nature, wildlife and dramatic coastal scenery.
  • The Clare Valley, approximately 1.5 hours drive north, is ideal for a relaxed stay with wineries, cycling trails (such as the Riesling Trail) and historical charm.
  • The Murray River region offers river cruises, scenic vistas and a very different South Australian experience.
